Classroom update
Room 2 is nearly finished. The carpet needs to be laid and then Room 2 students and Mrs Thompson can move back into their refurbished room.
The teacher resource room work has begun with a new floor and new walls going up. This will be where all the teaching resources are kept, with the shelving being moved from the corridor area outside Room 1. More photos soon!

School Cross Country
The annual Cross Country was held on Friday 12th May at school. Every student who took part gave 100% to do their best for their house. Congratulations to Aoraki who won this house challenge. Mitchel W and Connie were the winners of the Year 7 and 8 races and will receive the Greg Olsen Memorial Trophies at the end of the year. Well done to everyone involved.
Inquiry learning
Term 2
Tena koutou katoa and welcome back to another term at Opiki School. It’s wonderful to have everyone back and students look very happy and settled on day 1.
This term we are focusing on Technology and Science with classes learning about the Technology Process. Some senior students will be given the option of carrying on their science investigations as many of them did really well in the Manawatu Science and Technology Fair last year. Our learning will result in our annual Science and Technology Fair where our learning will be showcased.
Room 3 are enjoying their newly renovated classroom and Room 2 have relocated to the library while their room is being worked on.
Country Half Marathon and Walk
Sunday 25 March saw a great turn out of nearly 300 people participating in various courses.
The event was superbly organised by a small committee and a large number of volunteers. A big thank you to sponsors who supported this event also.I want to recognise the efforts of Narelle O’Connor who oversaw the entire event. Congratulations to everyone involved – a sum of nearly $3000 has been raised which is going towards the development of a new sunshade area at our school.
